Why Stay Ready?

Stay Ready Arkansas is a statewide initiative dedicated to preventing the spread of HIV and supporting healthier communities across Arkansas. Our mission is rooted in connection—connecting people to the tools, resources, and care they need to protect themselves and others. Through a comprehensive approach that includes HIV prevention education, testing, access to PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis), and community outreach, we’re working to eliminate new HIV infections and reduce stigma across the state. This work is part of a broader national effort, aligning with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' “Ending the HIV Epidemic” (EHE) initiative, which aims to reduce new HIV infections by 90% by 2030.

Arkansas is one of seven rural states prioritized in this plan, due to higher rates of HIV in underserved areas. Stay Ready Arkansas was created in response to this urgent need—because every person, no matter where they live, deserves access to lifesaving information, preventive care, and the support they need to thrive.

We envision an Arkansas where every individual, regardless of background or circumstance, has the knowledge, resources, and support to prevent HIV, maintain their health, and live with confidence and dignity.

Peer Prevention Advocates

Peer Prevention Advocates are a vital part of the Stay Ready Arkansas mission. These trained community members use their lived experiences, trusted voices, and cultural understanding to educate, support, and empower others in their communities around HIV prevention and care. As connectors and role models, Peer Prevention Advocates help reduce stigma, promote access to PrEP, encourage regular testing, and create safe spaces for open, honest conversations about sexual health. By meeting people where they are—both physically and emotionally—they play a crucial role in building trust, breaking down barriers, and driving real change from the inside out.
